That Time I Experimented With Poetry

In the early 2000s I experimented with writing poetry. I was fresh out of college, living at home without a full time job and lots of time on my hands. I stayed up late, pondered life and dabbled with this elusive genre. While I was never that good I think the exercise proved that with time and effort we can get better at even our worst subjects. Tonight I went back through that journal and found several pieces that, a decade + later, I still read and think "Hmm...not bad." I'd like to share two of those with you now. All rights reserved.

What if...

What if the diet worked
and the beauty cream
the cheap perm
get rich scheme

Would the world be different
Would it love me then
Stop looking out
See the me within?

Untitled #37

She is my past
And you my future
But sometimes the lines blur
A clear picture impossible to capture

When I dream of you
Its her I see
My God, my love
Have you forsaken me?

I run praying, hoping
Is it you I'll find?
A replicated love
One of a kind

I can never be sure
My guess never quite right
Sometimes the coming of day
Feels like the darkness of night
